LIVE news updates: India will have above-average maximum temperatures in February, says IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that India is expected to experience above-average maximum and minimum temperatures in February 2025. This follows an unusually warm January and poses potential risks to key winter-sown crops such as wheat, rapeseed, and chickpeas. Elevated temperatures during the grain formation stage could adversely affect yields, potentially leading to reduced production and necessitating increased imports to manage shortages.

In Jalandhar, Punjab, the forecast for early February indicates partial to plenty of sunshine with high temperatures ranging from 73°F (23°C) to 77°F (25°C) and low temperatures between 44°F (7°C) and 51°F (11°C). These conditions are consistent with the IMD's prediction of above-normal temperatures for the region.

Farmers in Punjab and other northern states should monitor weather updates closely, as prolonged periods of higher-than-normal temperatures can lead to moisture stress in crops, potentially impacting yields. Staying informed through IMD advisories and implementing appropriate agricultural practices can help mitigate adverse effects on crop producti
