Maha Kumbh 2025: Locals of Prayagraj provide meals, shelter to pilgrims

During the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, local residents have actively contributed to the comfort and well-being of the millions of pilgrims attending the event. Their efforts encompass providing meals, shelter, and other essential services.

Meal Services:

The non-profit organization Om-Namay Shivya has enlisted approximately 5,000 volunteers to serve meals to pilgrims. Utilizing advanced machinery for tasks like kneading flour and cutting vegetables, they aim to serve over 100,000 devotees daily. The menu features a variety of dishes on a seven-day rotation, including puri, kachori, pulav, rajma, and more.

Shelter Arrangements:

To accommodate the influx of pilgrims, the Uttar Pradesh government has established 35 night shelters across Prayagraj, including the fair area. These shelters offer free lodging with amenities such as beds and blankets to ensure a comfortable stay for devotees.

Homestay Initiatives:

In addition to official shelters, local residents have been encouraged to open their homes as paying guest accommodations. This initiative provides pilgrims with affordable and homely lodging options. The tourism department has trained hosts in hospitality and cleanliness to ensure a welcoming environment.

These collective efforts by the local community and authorities have been instrumental in ensuring that the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is a memorable and comfortable experience for a
