Maha Kumbh Stampede Live Updates: Akharas Resume 'Amrit Snan' After Delay Due To Stampede

A tragic stampede occurred during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in at least 39 fatalities and numerous injuries. The incident took place in the early hours as pilgrims gathered for a ritual bath at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. Overcrowding and barricade breaches led to the deadly crush.

Despite the tragedy, the Akharas (religious groups) have resumed the 'Amrit Snan' (holy bath) after a brief delay. Authorities have implemented measures to manage the crowd and ensure the safety of the remaining pilgrims. The festival, which attracts millions of devotees, has seen similar incidents in the past, prompting the use of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence for crowd monitoring.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have expressed their condolences to the families of the victims. An investigation into the cause of the stampede is underway, with initial reports suggesting that overcrowding and mismanagement may have contributed to the disaste
