Ukrainian drone strike hits second Russian oil refinery in a week

On January 29, 2025, Ukrainian forces conducted a drone strike targeting the Lukoil oil refinery in Kstovo, Russia, marking the second such attack on Russian energy infrastructure within a week. The strike resulted in significant damage to the facility, located approximately 500 miles from the front lines of the ongoing conflict. Regional authorities reported no casualties, but the attack left considerable debris at the site.

This follows a previous attack on January 26, 2025, when Ukrainian drones targeted the Ryazan oil refinery, also causing substantial damage.

These operations are part of Ukraine's broader strategy to disrupt Russia's energy infrastructure, aiming to weaken its military capabilities and economic stability. The Ukrainian military has not claimed responsibility for the Kstovo refinery attack, maintaining a policy of strategic ambiguity regarding such operations.

The escalation of drone strikes on critical infrastructure underscores the intensifying nature of the conflict and the increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles in modern war

fare.
