During a rally in Bawana, Delhi, on January 29, 2025, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenged Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal to drink water from the Yamuna River, highlighting an unfulfilled promise by Kejriwal to clean the river.
Gandhi accused Kejriwal of making false promises, stating, "Five years ago, Arvind Kejriwal said that he would take a bath in the Yamuna River and drink the water of the Yamuna River. It has been five years, and to date, Kejriwal ji has not drunk the water of Yamuna."
He further criticized Kejriwal for allegedly allowing Delhi residents to consume polluted water while living in luxury himself, saying, "You have to drink dirty water but Kejriwal lives in 'sheesh mahal' which is worth crores and lies to you."
This challenge comes amid ongoing political tensions, with Gandhi also accusing both Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making deceptive campaign promises.
