Arsenal, PSG and Bayern urged to end Visit Rwanda deals

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has called on football clubs Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to terminate their "Visit Rwanda" sponsorship agreements. This appeal follows escalating violence in eastern Congo, where M23 rebels, allegedly supported by Rwanda, have been accused of severe human rights violations, including summary executions and sexual violence.

DRC's Foreign Minister, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, emphasized the moral responsibility of these clubs, urging them to reconsider their partnerships with Rwanda amid the ongoing conflict.

The "Visit Rwanda" sponsorships, initiated in 2018 with Arsenal, have expanded to include Bayern Munich and PSG. These deals are now under scrutiny due to the alleged involvement of Rwandan forces in the conflict.

Rwanda denies supporting the M23 rebels, asserting that its actions are in self-defense against Congolese forces accused of collaborating with Hutu militias.

The situation remains complex, with international attention focused on the humanitarian crisis and the ethical considerations surrounding these sponso

rships.
