The Andhra Pradesh government is set to launch its 'WhatsApp governance' initiative on January 30, 2025, aiming to provide citizens with streamlined access to government services through the widely used messaging platform. In the first phase, 161 services will be made available, encompassing departments such as Endowments, Energy, APSRTC, Revenue, Anna Canteens, the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, and Municipal Administration.
This initiative is designed to reduce the need for citizens to visit government offices in person, thereby enhancing convenience and efficiency. The state government has emphasized the importance of data security and has directed officials to implement robust cybersecurity measures to protect citizens' information.
The 'WhatsApp governance' program is part of Andhra Pradesh's broader efforts to leverage digital technology for improved public service delivery. The state had previously signed an agreement with Meta on October 22, 2024, to facilitate the provision of services via WhatsApp.
Information Technology and Education Minister Nara Lokesh is expected to inaugurate the services on January 30. Following the initial rollout, additional services are planned to be introduced in subsequent pha
ses.
